Home Schooling Policy

Parents who home school their children may be unsure how they wish to prepare their child for Confirmation.  Pope Paul VI declared that through the Sacrament of Confirmation we are “bound more intimately to the Church” and “they are more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith both by word and deed as true witnesses of Christ”.  Because of the communal nature of Confirmation, we strongly recommend that parents enroll their children the church’s Confirmation Program.

Should you decide to home school for this sacrament, we will make every effort to support you by providing books and, if you chose, a teacher’s manual containing lesson plan templates, scriptural references, and meditation materials. Home schooled students must meet the same requirements as other candidates for confirmation including community service requirements (pg. 4) Class attendance is the ONLY exception. In lieu of class attendance, students are required to read “Spreading and Defending the Faith” and provide a short summary of each chapter. This should take no longer than allotted class time. We encourage parents to include spiritual meditations and exercises as part of their curriculum and to take advantage of special speaking engagement and field trips we provide. Contact us if we can help in any other way.
